Audio Player Blind Bargains Podcast 7: Access For iOS At 1.5x

Joe and JJ have had just about enough of ice and snow for one winter season. That is why they are excited to jet off to the west coast for CSUN 2015 next week. But, before they do, they wrangled in Shelly Brizbin to the program to talk "iOS Access For All", that book you may have heard us mention a few times in regards to our "Name the Show" saga. And the saga continues as you will see in the "Sound Off" section. Tune in to learn more about that, a Listener contributed demonstration of a neat service that might be able to earn you some pocket change, an Android tip and lots more in episode 7.

Discussion Topic: iOS 8 Access And Self-publishing

Shelly, JJ and Joe take a moment to talk about the fun and pitfalls around writing a comprehensive look at one of the largest mobile operating systems out there today. From Voiceover to low vision, "iOS Access For All" covers a wide range of topics. We also talk about iCars, iOS public betas and the upcoming Apple Watch.

Demonstration: Text Broker

Ever thought you had it in you to do a bit of freelance writing? For some the spoken word can come easy and for others the printed word can equal cash. Eden Kizer tells us how she managed to make money with her writing via the service aptly named "Text Broker". It's a good way to learn the ropes of writing beyond your own blog. And it could open up to even more opportunities once you get your creative mojo working. Or, it could just be enough to pay for a weekend pizza binge. you never know until you try right?

Sound Off:

Wow, just wow. The emails, tweets and comments have been fantastic. And the more than 150 votes in our naming survey have made it such that we are not able to declare an out-and-out winner for the future name of the show... yet. Therefore, while we are in San Diego gathering all that audio goodness from CSUN, we'll leave up the naming survey and come back with an update during Episode 8. Our first email this week is from Keith, who happens to be directly related to the podcast... no really.

"Hello Joe,

My name is Keith Wiglesworth and I'm a big fan of yours. Smile.

I began listening to your Pod cast when you were with Serotek when my new Victor Reader Stream became compatible with Pod casts and just love listening to you guys banter and update things, and I especially enjoyed Ricki. She's a favorite of mine especially since we met a couple years ago via a Hadley seminar about Social media.

Anyway, I was a bit sad when those changed but was happy when last week I discovered you now on Blind Bargains as I had just subscribed to their casts.

Glad to have you there because although at times it sounds silly, you really do much to demystify all this tech stuff, and I'm one who appreciates that as I'm an older guy trying to figure much of this out.

For what it's worth, I am also Patrick Purdue's Uncle, so tell him Uncle Keithy says hey, and I may need his help trying to pick a laptop or something similar.

I'm probably stuck on a desktop that will probably become obsolete before too long so I'll likely need his help there so prepare him for that if you can.

He's a good guy and I'm very proud of him.

I don't have a name for the pod cast so don't care what it is called as long as you just keep it going all that you can and I'll keep listening.

Take care and keep on doing what you're doing, and glad you're there at Blind Bargains.

Keith Wiglesworth"

Thank you very much for those kind words. Here is a comment from the show notes page of episode 6.

"Hi! i just wanted to take a moment to let you know that I really am enjoying your podcast. I like that it is both informative and entertaining. I enjoy the fact that you all seem to be friends, and not just merely coleagues. Personally, I enjoy more the podcast with some interaction rather than just statement of facts and numbers. thanks for this! It, and all of you, are awesome!"

Last Word:

The Verge, and others, decided to discuss the art of podcasting last week. And, naturally, that had us thinking about sound and the speed of said sounds. Take a look at these three articles and let us know how you choose to listen to your content of choice.
