- Blind Bargains Qast 179: Be My AI
This week finds J.J. on the road, and recording from April's Michigan AER convention. Joe is preparing for his return trip to Starkville to teach A.T. for MSU. And is not totally doing accessibility testing of the recent release of Mortal Kombat 11. Nope, not at all testing the new spoken menus in the game. Er, um, this week is a features format of the BBQ with an interview with Microsoft and Be My Eyes. David Ward joins us for the first time with a submitted tip. Also, there are some new product mentions in-between these two interviews you don't want to miss. Now load your photos into the buffer and join us for BBQ 179.
Interview: Saqib Shaikh, Seeing AI
Shelly didn't get as many chances to utilize the BBQ Suite this year. So, she jumped at the chance to speak to Saqib Shaikh, Software Engineer for Microsoft for the Seeing AI Project, as it let her have a conversation about the new features in Seeing AI 3.0 away from all that crazy Exhibit Hall noise. Tune in to learn more about new features such as the explore the photo option, native iPad support implementation and how you can customize the modes list from within the app. Shelly then demonstrates some of these new features after the interview concludes. To download the app, if you haven't already, visit the iOS App Store page for Microsoft Seeing AI
A.T. Guys New Products
We interviewed WayAround at CSUN '19 and we are proud to say that the popular tags are now available for purchase through the A.T. Guys store. J.J. talks about the various options and packages for Wayaround and a couple of other products. To learn more, and pick up a set of your very own, surff the web to A.T. Guys
Interview: Will Butler and Alexander Hauerslev Jensen Be My Eyes
Joe, Shelly and J.J. all lost one interview from their CSUN 19 recordings. J.J. just so happened to have lost an interview with Will Butler and Alexander Hauerslev Jensen of Be My Eyes. The BBQ has enjoyed a long history with the Be My Eyes team going all the way back to our first episode in 2015. In a strange twist of fate, okay luck may have been on our side here, there is even more news to discuss since our time in Anaheim. The trio covers many aspects about the service's new partnerships with Google and details how they are working in areas of helping users with financial concerns. You may also be intrigued by what is the most common, and even a little odd, requests the Be My Eyes volunteers have been asked over the years. Also, a quick sneak peek at an upcoming feature is revealed towards the end of the interview. To learn more about the latest of what the service has to offer, or to download the app, head on over to the Be My Eyes website
Tip: Amazon Echo Features
David Ward has offered to give us tips about what you can do with the A lady. As a bit of an introduction, we asked that he tell us about his own podcast. If you have an Amazon Alexa enabled app or device nearby then just ask it to "Play the Echo Tips podcast". Or head over to the companion website to download them directly and read the show notes.
next week is up in the air. However, the week after that, there is news from Microsoft Build and Google i/o. Recent rumors and leaks indicate that we will indeed be talking about new hardware. Stay tuned!
