One of the biggest prizes for blind or visually impaired people is back for its second year and the application period is now open.
In 2017, the Lighthouse for the Blind in San Francisco launched the Holman Prize, a $25000 award to assist visually impaired creators and adventurers in undertaking their most ambitious projects. In 2017, 3 winners were chosen by a panel of legally blind judges from among over 200 applicants. The winners had projects as diverse as kayaking, baking, and beekeeping, and they look forward to a similarly diverse group of submissions this year.
Interested applicants must first submit a 90 second YouTube video describing their project, as well as answering a short questionnaire. A group of semifinalists will subsequently be required to write in-depth written proposals for their projects, from among which finalists selected by Lighthouse Staff will give in-depth interviews for the final selection. Applications close February 28 at noon Pacific Standard Time. Late applications will not be accepted.
