APH Posts Product Page for Braille Plus 18, Preorders Imminent

APH has posted a product page for the Braille Plus, the long-awaited update to their braille notetaking/PDA solution. THe device is based on Android and includes GPS software with turn-by-turn navigation, a 5 megapixel camera with OCR capabilities, the ability to play books from NLS, Learning Ally, and other sources, a word processor, and 3G support initially for AT&T and T-Mobile. Other standard ffeatures like Wi-fi, Bluetooth, and 32GB of flash memory are also included. It's listed as a preorder price of $3,299 through October 12, but this price is only available for "Ex Officio Trustees only" according to the product page. According to the APH website, "Ex Officio Trustees are charged with the administration of their respective Federal
Quota accounts."
This list includes primarily directors of Schools for the Blind, blindness training centers, andother support agencies. We'll post more details as we learn of them.

I'm so glad the device is out but I've never heard of such an introductory arrangement before from any company, I hope APH opens this up to the public. Beth

It is unfortunate that APH has chosen to go this route. The only price listed on the product page is the $3,299 price for trustees. Ironically enough, there is also the add to cart link, which should not even be there if this is only for trustees. Since there was no mention of a price for us regulars on the page, I called them and was told they don't know what the official price is yet. I'm sure other companies offer this pricing all the time through private e-mails which is what APH should've done. Teasing the public like this is pretty unexceptable.
