Apple has released iOS4, the fourth major version of the operating system for the iPhone, IPod touch and iPad. iOS4 features multitasking, the ability for apps to be placed in to folders, bluetooth keyboard and braille display support and more. iOS4 is a free update for all compatible devices, including the iPhone 3gs, and iPod touch 3g.

I do wish everyone would stop saying iOS 4 has multitasking. It doesn't really allow any more multitasking than version 3 does, it's a system where by an application's state is saved to disk and then restored again the next time the app is re-launched. For services like VOIP, Apple has true background daemons the application can hook into, but if you need to do something Apple didn't think about that requires true multitasking (like, for example, GPS while on a call) you're still stuck. I've always found this a bit ridiculous, Symbian S60 phones could multitask in as little as 64 mb of ram, the iPhone 3g has 256 and a better processor. The iOS is capable of real multitasking, as Apple's own built in apps do it, but for some annoying reason they insist that 3rd party developers be blocked from this functionality (they claim battery life, but that's rubbish so not sure what their real reason is).
