Blind Bargains

A Review of Simple Bank and their iOS App

I recently came across a tweet that sparked my interest about a new bank that promised no fees and simplicity. the bank is called Simple, and their goal is to be the bank that people want to use because of the features that come with being a customer. the first thing to know about Simple is that there are no physical locations. All of the banking you do is done using your debit card and their smart phone app on your iOS or Android device. Since the bank is so new, you have to first sign up to join. You will then receive an email invitation when they are ready to add more people. For me, I only had to wait a few days.

Next, you set up your account. In order to set up the account, you will need to have access to at least $100 from a bank that you already use. Once you've gotten passed this first step, you don't have to maintain a balance in your account. If you don't use a financial institution right now, Simple may not be an option for you. If this is no problem, simply transfer the money from one account to your new Simple account.

The final step in the setup process is to install the smart phone app. Since all of the banking is done either on the bank's website or app, they've made being an iOS or Android user a requirement. If this bothers you, you may not want to use their services.

A Look at the iOS App:

I am pleased to report that the app is very VoiceOver friendly. I had no problem signing in and using the different parts of the app. One of the neat features of Simple is that they track your purchasing history so that they can tell you what they predict is your spending balance as well as what you have total in the account. they also offer the option of taking a picture of a check to deposit money as well as giving you access to over 50,000 ATM's throughout the country.

Visit their FAQ to learn more about what comes with being a Simple customer. Overall, I'm very pleased with the accessibility of their website and app.
